E-Cigarette Use Doubles Among Students
The findings from the National Youth Tobacco Survey, reported in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), showed that the percentage of middle and high school students who reported ever using an e-cigarette doubled from 2011 to 2012. Altogether, in 2012, more than 1.78 million middle and high school students nationwide had tried e-cigarettes.

Flavored Little Cigar/Cigarette Use Among U.S. Middle and High School Students
More than two out of every five middle and high school students who smoke use either flavored little cigars or flavored cigarettes, according to a report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published in the Journal of Adolescent Health. The article, using data from the 2011 National Youth Tobacco Survey (NYTS), is the first to measure how many American youth are using flavored little cigars and flavored cigarettes.

Smoking Cessation for Pregnancy & Beyond
This virtual clinic is a free, interactive Web-based program designed for health care professionals to hone their skills in assisting pregnant women to quit smoking. Up to four hours of continuing education credits can be earned by completing the practicum. The program includes case simulations and mini-lectures from leading experts on motivational interviewing and pharmacotherapy use during pregnancy and beyond. The training is available through August 2014.

Trends in U.S. Cigarette Smoking: Is Menthol Slowing Progress?
This study published in the August 30, 2013, online edition of Tobacco Control, showed that youth and young adults are more likely to smoke menthol cigarettes than older smokers. Additionally, menthol cigarettes are slowing progress in reducing smoking prevalence.
